Silk Creations
Silk Creations helps the women at St. Margaret’s House to develop their gifts and talents. Through this empowerment program, women can learn the craft of painting on silk, creating one-of-a-kind hand-painted pieces of art in the form of scarves, prints, notecards, and jewelry that are sold to the public. Participants learn the rules of the workplace and gain skills in decision-making, marketing, financial literacy, maintaining inventory, and working as a team. Artists earn money for their work, gain confidence in themselves, and begin to define themselves as artists and entrepreneurs.
Women who show an interest in art and collaboration are invited to be part of the Silk Creations Apprenticeship Classes. As skills are evaluated and benchmarks are met, women achieve the title of “Silk Artist,” then work toward the level of “Master Artist,” designating technical proficiency and the ability to teach others about the process.
